Lyophilized injection: A modern approach of injectable dosage form

Image
ABSTRACT  Now-a-days, lyophilized injection dosage form is extensively used to improve the bioavailability, stability, solubility and patient compliance. The lyophilized injection is used for better patient compliance especially in bed ridden patients and for attaining maximum bioavailability, improved stability. The lyophilized injection reconstitutes before injection to produce liquid injection. This review includes a detailed updated concept on lyophilized injection. Keywords: Lyophilized injection, parenteral, freezing, sublimation, desorption freeze drying INTRODUCTION Lyophilization, or freeze-drying, is a crucial process technology for many parenteral drugs, and an essential part of extending product shelf life.  Lyophilization is a water removal process through which perishable items are preserved. This process boosts the shelf life of the material and also makes them easier to transport. Lyophilized injections are also prescribed to attain maximum bioavailability an...

Bilayer Tablets: An Emerging Trend

Image
ABSTRACT  The interest in bilayer tablet as an oral immediate-release/controlled-release system has substantially increased in the past decade. Formulation of bi-layer or multi-layer tablets enables the combination of two or more drugs that may be incompatible or maybe intended for delivery at different rates. In the last decade, interest in developing a combination of two or more Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) in a single dosage form (bilayer tablet) has increased in the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmacokinetic profile relies on the fact that the fast release layer provides the loading dose of drug and the sustained release of drug maintain the drug concentration within therapeutic window for longer period of time. Bilayer tablets offer definite advantages over conventional release formulation of the same drug. Now a day, several pharmaceutical companies are developing bilayer tablet for co-administration of drugs to improve the therapeutic efficacy as well as to reduce ...
